Salvage of sunken boat (c) Sandy Paton

This canal boat had lain sunk for many years near Polmont until 1975 when staff and young men from Polmont young offenders unit salvaged it. It was thought to have lain abandoned since the 1950s, after being used to carry ammunition in World War II from the Nobel Westquarter factory. The salvage team lifted out and took it to the engineering shop at the prison. It was overhauled and fitted with a new engine then donated to Grangemouth Sea Cadets.
